Netra Bahadur Khadka aka Ram Bahadur, 31, of Phulasahi-9 in Ramechhap and his wife Kalpana, 35, were found murdered inside their rented room in Jyatha, Thamel on Monday night.
The suspect has been identified as Tak Bahadur Khadka aka Sagar, who happens to be a grandson of the deceased.
According to the police, Sagar and his absconding room partner, decided to loot all the cash and jewelries from the couple´s room. They reached the rented room of the victims with sharp khukuris hidden in their bag. The couple allowed them to stay the night as they were very close to each other. But at around 9:30, when the couple was asleep, they attacked randomly and fled the scene with the cash and jewelries, locking the room from outside, the police said.
Both the accused had participated in the funeral of deceased at Aryaghat, according to Manjil Mukarung, the officer in charge of investigating the case.
According to the police, the two had looted a mobile set, Rs 50,000 cash, gold bracelet, necklace and earrings, a silver chain and a finger ring from the room. The police have recovered the mobile set, Rs 17,000, earrings, bracelet and a finger ring from the arrested.
The police said that another suspect might have already fled the capital.
Tak Bahadur told the media that they had planned to carry out the loot and murder a day earlier. Both the accused ran errands for a water factory carrying water jars on cycles.
