A new zoo has been proposed to be constructed in Suryavinayak at Bhaktapur over 300 hectares of land. "We are used to giving more space to office buildings. I urge you to use the entire 300 hectares land for the zoo only," he said. The central zoo is spread over only 6 hectares land.
PM Nepal gave the direction during his inspection visit to the NTNC office and the Central Zoo at Jawalakhel, Lalitpur Monday.
The PM also gave direction to NTNC to speed-up its plan to construct a Zoological Park.
After the NTNC officials briefed PM Nepal about their activities and plans and rising poaching activities, especially at Chitwan National Park, the PM said that the government is committed to enforcing strong laws against all illegal trade in animal parts. "There seems to be a big nexus of rhino horn poachers operating in Chitwan. I give strong direction not to spare the poachers and impose severe penalty against those caught during poaching activities or with animal parts," the PM said.
Stating that "people´s participation," is vital for developing and protecting conservation areas in the country, the PM said, "If people´s awareness and ownership can be promoted, there is nothing impossible to achieve."
The PM also sought NTNC´s involvement in promoting the government-initiated Bagmati Civilization Project.
This was the PM´s first visit to NTNC since he took office. He is also the patron of the institution.
