PM Bhattarai in New York

KATHMANDU, Sept 20: Prime Minister Dr. Baburam Bhattarai has reached New York with a 13 member delegation to take part in the 66th session of the UN General Assembly on Tuesday.



Bhattarai was welcomed by officials of the Nepali embassy and permanent representatives of the UN at JFK International Airport. [break]



The high-level meeting on nuclear safety will start from Tuesday. PM Bhattarai is scheduled to address the assembly on Saturday.



He is also meeting the prime minister of Norway and foreign minister of Cuba on Tuesday and is set to give an interview to the Washington Post.



The PM will attend the reception to be hosted by American President Barack Obama and the first lady in honor of the heads of the states or governments attending the UN General Assembly.



He will also meet the pm of Bhutan, Srilanka and President of Bolivia on Wednesday and will meet Secretary General of the UN Ban Ki-moon separately.



Bhattarai is expected to make a personal visit to Connecticut to meet his childhood teacher.



On Friday Bhattarai is scheduled to meet the president of Finland and vice-president of Maldives and also the Indian PM and a team of Chinese delegation.



PM Bhattarai will arrive in Nepal on Sept 26.
