PM attends 'Asar Pandra' celebrations

BHAKTAPUR, June 29: Prime Minister Jhalanath Khanal attended the rice plantation program held by the All Nepal Peasants´ Federation, Bhaktapur, marking the eighth National Rice Day here Wednesday.



Taking part in the rice plantation event held at Ghattodil, Bageshwori-3, Mr Khanal who is also the Chairman of the CPN (UML) said economic revolution is possible only after the completion of the peace process and constitution drafting process.[break]



He added, "Peace and constitution are the current needs of the country".



"Agriculture revolution is the door to economic revolution", said the Prime Minister and pledged to give priority to the agriculture sector in the upcoming budget.



CPN (UML) Vice Chairperson and Federation Chairperson Bamdev Gautam said his party was actively working for establishing lasting peace and promulgation of a new constitution in the country.



CPN (UML) Vice Chairperson Bidhya Devi Bhadari and leaders Surendra Pandey, Rajendra Pandey, Rajendra Shrestha and Rameshwor Phuyal also joined the National Rice Day celebrations.



On the occasion, a special issue on rice was released while Dahi Chiura (beaten rice and yogurt) was offered to the participants.



Asar Pandhra or the 15th day of the Nepali month of Asar every year is observed as the National Rice Day in Nepal by planting rice saplings and eating Dahi Chiura.
