KATHMANDU, Nov 1: Thamel Tourism Development Council (TTDC) has postponed plan to ban entrance for vehicles in Thamel area due to stern protest by local residents and business entrepreneurs.

The council planned to prohibit vehicles´ entry on the road in front of Kathmandu Guest House to Lakkithanka Chowk getting support from Japanese traffic volunteer Kiyoshi Baba.

Local businessmen said they showed disagreement when the council planned to prohibit movement without consulting them. The council declared the area ´No Entry´ for vehicles before, too, but it has not been implemented, said local businessman Sushil Maharjan.

However, the council´s outgoing chairman Ganesh Bahadur Pandey said the council has started the programme only after consulting the locals, adding, the council would stop vehicular entry around the area at any cost.
