Speaking at a function organized by District Child Welfare Committee in Taplejung on Sunday, political leaders said the government should allow them to hold election rallies in schools. “It is true we have been organizing election rallies on school premises. This is not our choice as there are no open spaces where we can organize election rallies in the district. However, we have not disturbed classes,” said a local leader of CPN-UML Radha Krishna Poudel.
Likewise, Ganesh Dahal, district-based office secretary of Rastriya Prajatantra Party-Nepal (RPP-N), said, “We have organized election rallies at many places. But there are not enough open spaces in some parts of the district.”
Bharat Mani Poudel, a local development officer in the district, said, “We have only few open spaces in the district. But this does not give the parties leeway to violate the election code of conduct.” He said political leaders cannot violate the election code on any pretext.
Chief District Officer Prakash Poudel said political leaders should not get involved in any activities that violate the election code of conduct. “I also urge all the political leaders not to involve children in any political activities.”
