Paddy production down by 16% in Parsa

BIRGUNJ, Nov 30: Production of paddy, the main food in the country, has gone down by 16 per cent in Parsa district this year, thanks to inadequate and timely rainfall, and shortage of fertilizers.



According to the District Agricultural Development Office, Parsa, an average of 3.5 metric tonnes paddy was produced in per hectare land in the district.[break]



The district produced a total of 163,485 metric tonnes of paddy from 46,710 hectares of land, the Office said. Last year, 193,270 metric tonnes of paddy was produced in the same area of land in Parsa.



Irrigation facility is available round the year only in 22,000 hectares of land while 3,000 hectares of land is semi-irrigated in Parsa district. Similarly, farmers of 18,000 hectares of land solely rely on rainfall for irrigation in Parsa.
