Oh, the Winter Blues!

KATHMANDU, Jan 7: No doubt the winter cold seems set on irritating us and making us long for a bit of sunshine. The cold breeze adds to our woes and we can’t help but hunch over as we walk. After a day of college or work, all we want to do is jump into bed and keep warm.

During the day, we sip endless cups of tea and think of warmer days. Well, what do you do to fight the cold gloomy winter days?

“I hate this season as it makes me lazy. It’s really tough to sustain in winter in Kathmandu. Most of my day is spent at college but when I reach home, tea, quilt and a good night’s sleep are what I exactly want. After whole day’s worth of exhaustion, it keeps me relaxed and warm,” shares Preeti Karna on our Facebook page.[break]

But our beds have surely not looked so inviting!

Sulav Dahal says, “These days, I stay warm with the help of my new jacket and cap. I have around five cups of tea daily and I also play basketball in college to warm me up. And of course, sunbathing is so joyful.”

Sunbathing, surely, is the favorite thing to do during winter. Whenever we see the warm rays of sun lighting up a place, we can’t help but revel in it, even for a few minutes. Then we’re forced to move away with only the precious memory of the sun to keep us warm.

Prasim Gurung says, “Every morning, I wake up grumbling. I prefer green tea over coffee. I cover my head and body with a jumper, use a mask to cover my nose and mouth, and just let my eyes feel the soothing cold wind of early winter mornings. It’s fun to take pictures of people sitting beside the dancing fire in the early chilly morning. I feel warm inside. An hour of sunbathing with something to read, and utilizing my time productively and positively make me feel good and warm.”

Rupak Sunuwar puts it simply, “Hot momos accompanied by soup and ginger tea.”

Cheers to hot momos and tea. They’re something that we all love and can’t do without in winter.
