Obstruction at Phaplu-Jantardhap road creates shortage of daily essential

SOLUKHUMBHU, Aug 17: Transport services have been disrupted along the Phaplu-Jantardhap road section for the past two months after landslide damaged road at Sisneri.



Transport services have been obstructed after landslide that occurred on July 16 damaged the road. [break]



Following the transport disruption, there is a shortage of daily essential goods and construction materials at the district headquarters, Salleri, and other market areas, Nele, Sotang, Lukla and Namche, locals said.



The locals said that they are hit hard after the Department of Roads did not open the track though the road was obstructed for long.



More than half a dozen tractors have been stranded at Salme. Most of the tractors stranded at Salme are of businessmen of Okhaldhunga district.



Around five dozen tractors to and fro the district headquarters daily have been stranded at the district headquarters due to the condition of the road. Some of the tractors used to supply goods to Solukhumbu district from Okhaldhunga district regularly.



Transport entrepreneurs said that around 25 small and large vehicles ply to Okhaldhunga from Salleri daily.



Locals and businessmen complained that the Department did not take any initiative to open track though there is now improvement in weather as compared to a few days ago, whereas, the Department said that transport services will be resumed by opening the track soon.
