KATHMANDU, Jan 11: Nepal Telecom (NT) has paid the first installment of GSM license renewal fee to the government. NT Spokesperson Guna Keshari Pradhan said that the operator paid its first installment of Rs 2.50 billion on Wednesday as per the decision taken by a recent board meeting.

Nepal Telecommunications Authority (NTA) had earlier pressed Ncell and NT to pay the renewal fee as their licensing conditions required them to renew their operating licenses after 10 years of operation by paying a sum of Rs 20 billion. [break]

The Financial and Infrastructure Committee of the Cabinet in September last year had decided to collect committed royalty and license renewal fees from telecom operators on eight-year installment basis.

The private operator Ncell paid its first installment last month.
