KATHMANDU, July 28: Officials, who inspected food warehouses sealed by a team of Kathmandu District Administration Office (KDAO), have said that they found no hoarding of daily commodities there. [break]

Responding to alarming rise in the prices of essential commodities in the market, a team from the KDAO had raised four food warehouses in Jadibuti, Kalimati and Kuleshwar on Friday. The team had sealed warehouses belonging to KL Dugar in Jadibuti, Shyambaba Enterprises of Pawan Agrawal and Bansal Traders of Pawan Bansal in Kuleshwar and Jaya Laxmi Sabji Bhandar at Kalimati vegetable market after conducting raids.

The officials verified the stock of commodities with book records at the warehouses on Monday and Tuesday.

“We didn´t find essential commodities hoarded in the warehouses,” Gobinda Gauli, an officer involved in verification, told myrepublica.com.

The inspection team has submitted the inspection report to Kathmandu CDO Bhola Shiwakoti.

Officials said it might take at least two to three days to permit the concerned traders resume their business.

“We have to go through the details of stock reports prepared by our team and quiz the concerned traders about abnormal rise in the prices of commodities in the market. It will take at least two days,” said Tej Prasad Paudel, assistant chief district officer of Kathmandu.

Sealed outlets reopen

Four retails shops in Kalimati, sealed by the officials from Department of Commerce (DoC) on Monday, have been reopened on Tuesday.

The shops were reopened after the retailers expressed commitment to comply with the government directive to display the price list, a source at the DoC said.

The officials had sealed the outlets, charging the owners of disobeying the government order.

Deadline extended

Ministry of Commerce and Supplies (MoCS) on Tuesday extended the deadline for retailers to put price list of daily commodities at their shops by seven days. The ministry took the decision as per the request of traders, a source at the ministry said.

A delegation of Nepal Chamber of Commerce -- led by its president Surendra Bir Malakar -- had requested the ministry officials to provide additional time frame for the preparation of price lists. “We will continue sealing the retail shops that do not comply with the decision after the deadline expires,” the source said.

Initially, the government had directed traders to display price list by Monday.
