Dahal claimed that he has failed to forge consensus among the political parties despite continuous efforts and there was no option left except to form an alliance of progressive forces and fight those who are against change.[break]
He claimed that by forming a 21-party alliance headed by himself, he has shown the way to the Nepali Congress (NC) and CPN-UML as well for forming of a new alliance.
"Whether it is a fight or a deal it will now be between alliances," Dahal told reporters in Lahan on Saturday. "Neither is there a possibility of any agreement nor will the struggle be decisive if we take any move based on individual political parties alone."
Stating that the government became a caretaker one from the day it announced fresh polls, he added that demanding the resignation of a caretaker government was ridiculous.
He said that if the parties fail to agree on fresh elections, they have to settle the unresolved disputes in constitution writing and that can be done on the basis of the stances taken by alliances.
Dahal claimed that the current caretaker government will last not just 20 or 30 more years but even longer if the parties fail to reach an agreement.
He came down heavily on NC President Sushil Koirala, describing him as the main spoilsport in the search for an agreement among major political parties to end the ongoing political stalemate.
"There is no chance of allowing the NC to lead the government at a time when the country is in crisis because NC President Koirala is mainly responsible for the dissolution of the Constituent Assembly and failure to write the constitution and conclude the peace process," claimed the Maoist chairman.
Stating that a large section of leaders in the NC and UML were conservative, he said they had been creating hindrances in transforming the country into a federal setup and implementing other forward-looking agenda.
He accused Koirala of holding secret meetings with Mohan Baidya and being actively involved in bringing about a vertical split in the UCPN (Maoist) party. "If he can conspire to divide our party why can´t I take the initiative to forge an alliance with the pro-federalists in the NC party?"
Stating that the Maoist party historically had special relations with the Madhesi, ethnic and indigenous communities, Dahal claimed that leaders from the NC and UML were getting nervous at seeing the Maoist party´s good relations with various communities in the country. "It is better that the NC and UML take the initiative to form an alliance instead of making nonsense remarks," he said. "We have already formed an alliance. The sooner they form a new bloc the easier it will become to reach a deal between the two fronts."
