Nepali NGOs to present shadow report in CEDAW session

KATHMANDU, July 13: Nepal’s non-government organizations are presenting a shadow report in the 49th session of the UN Committee on the Elimination of Discrimination against Women (CEDAW) due to be held in New York on July 20.



The CEDAW session will discuss the Fourth and Fifth Periodic Report of the Government of Nepal. [break]



Though the government has already submitted a report, 45 NGOs on the leadership of Forum for Women Law and Development (FWLD) have jointly prepared the shadow report by incorporating the left over issues that will be discussed in New York on July 18.



This was informed organizing a press meet in the Capital on Wednesday.



The shadow report comprises 25 issues those raised in the Article 1-16 of Women Convention such as violence against women, women’s rights, nationality, employment, health including reproductive health, economic and social rights, Dalit women, woman migrant workers, single women, women with disabilities and indigenous women.



FWLD Director Sabin Shrestha said the report stresses for equal rights to women on par with men, representation in all levels and end to violence against women, among other.
