The event kicks off in the Bangladeshi capital on Thursday.
Nepal Basketball Association (NeBA) bade farewell to the national squad amid a program organized at the National Sports Council (NSC) on Sunday.[break]
The 15-member team includes 12 players and three officials. Sadish Pradhan is captaining the side. NeBA President Tendi Sherpa is leading the Nepali delegation. Coach Dinesh Nakarmi and Assitant Coach Biaksh Shahi are also in the delegation.
“Teams from all eight South Asian countries are expected to participate in the tournament. But the draw will be finalized only after we reach Dhaka,” said Sherpa.
Yubaraj Lama, member secretary of NSC, and officials of NeBA bade farewell to the team.
Coach Nakarmi said his side was expecting at least a bronze metal. "I am satisfied with the team and its preparation. We have height disadvantage against physically tough opponents,” Nakarmi said, adding, “But looking at our past performance, we should at least get third position.”
Saying that Nepali team would be difficult for all teams, Captain Pradhan said India and Afghanistan would be the biggest challenges. “We hope to put up a better show; we are targeting at least a bronze metal,” said Pradhan.
