"In the summit, we are raising the growing threats to agriculture sector due to declining investment and consequent lower production in least developed countries like Nepal," said Dr Hari Dahal, spokesperson at the Ministry of Agriculture and Cooperatives (MoAC).
Dahal, who is also attending the summit, also said the Nepali delegation would also urge the world community to increase access of Nepali agriculture products to international market besides seeking concessions from developed countries to poor countries for increasing agricultural productivity.
According to the government, Nepal will face a food deficit of 132,000 tons due to long spell of drought during last winter.
During the meeting, delegates will discuss about the impact of ongoing financial crisis in food security across the world, governance of worldwide food security and challenges posed by climate changes in agriculture productivity, Dahal said.
He also said the delegates would also strongly discuss the measures to increase food security through rural development and promoting small farmers and trade of agriculture produces.
Agriculture Minister Mrigendra Kumar Singh Yadav will lead the Nepali delegation to the summit which is scheduled to be held between Nov 16 and 18.
Experts says about $83 billion of annual investment is required to increase agriculture production by 70 percent to feed over 9 billion population in the world by 2050. At present, about $23 billion is invested in agriculture sector across the world.
