KATHMANDU, March 28: Nepal Tarun Dal (NTD), the youth wing of the Nepali Congress, has strongly opposed the arrest of former Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli and former Home Minister Ramesh Lekhak. In a press release issued on Saturday by President Bidhwan Gurung, the arrests were described as politically motivated, driven by bias and revenge.
NTD said such unilateral and heavy-handed actions strike at the very heart of democratic values and the rule of law. Gurung warned that these moves risk pushing the country toward unnecessary conflict and instability.

The youth organization urged the government to reconsider its decisions and act in a transparent and impartial manner, strictly following law and procedure while upholding political tolerance. NTD also stressed that safeguarding national stability, unity, and social harmony is a responsibility shared by all stakeholders. Reaffirming its stance, NTD vowed to strongly resist any actions that could threaten the nation’s peace and stability.
The NC, meanwhile, has not yet made any statement regarding Lekhak’s arrest, though it was expected to comment in the afternoon after reviewing the situation.
CPN-UML has announced nationwide protests demanding the release of Chair Oli. Following the arrest, a Central Secretariat meeting on Saturday outlined a series of protests. Vice-Chair Ram Bahadur Thapa Badal has been tasked with coordinating dialogue with parties represented in parliament, while General Secretary Shankar Pokhrel said that Gokarna Bista will coordinate legal protests and responses.
