Congress and UML leaders described the FDRA decision as a ploy to prolong the latter´s stay in power and avoid fresh election.[break]
"Revival of the CA was not an appropriate solution to end the present political crisis even in the past. It is not a right approach for the present either and it going to be a solution in future," Congress leader Minendra Rijal told Republica.
He said the CA revival option is never going to solve the country´s problem.
UML spokesman Pradeep Gyawali said the latest decision of the alliance, which is headed by UCPN (Maoist) Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal, further proved the opposition parties´ claim that the ruling coalition was employing one tactic after another not only to prolong government tenure but also to avoid fresh elections.
"Political parties discussed a lot for a period of one month during August-September over the issue of whether or not to revive the CA," Gyawali told Republica. "But lastly the option of CA revival was closed after the ruling Maoist and Madhes-based parties remained rigid over the single ethnic-based federal model."
He said that the CA revival option was simply unacceptable to UML. He said the parties have already decided to go for fresh CA election and there should be no backtracking on the commitment under any excuse.
A few months ago, UML had officially decided to lobby for holding new elections and the party also issued instruction to the party leaders and former lawmakers not to lobby in favor of the CA reinstatement.
On Wednesday, NC president Sushil Koirala had ruled out any possibility of his party supporting CA revival proposal.
