During the meeting, two parties have also reiterated their commitment towards the 11-point agreement and 25-point ordinance on removing constitutional difficulties forged among the four parties on March 13.

The meeting of the two parties has further decided to hold talks with agitating parties to address concerns raised by them and to bring them on board the election process with maximum flexibility.

Meanwhile, the meeting has also discussed size of the new Constituent Assembly (CA) and vowed to remain standby to their earlier agreement on the issue. Four parties had earlier agreed that the new CA will have 491 members. Of these, 240 members will be elected under the first-past-the-post electoral system and 240 will be elected under proportional representative quotas while another 11 members will be nominated by the cabinet on the basis of political agreement.

On the occasion, the NC and UML expressed their firm support to the Election Commission’s proposal of barring those candidates to contest elections who are convicted by the court on criminal charges. However, UCPN (Maoist) and other fringe parties are taking strong exception on the EC´s proposal.
