The party stated that donation for the polls will be received only through the banking channel unlike in all previous elections to ensure transparency.
According to NC Treasurer Chitra Lekha Yadav, those interested to provide donation to the party can log onto the party´s official website - www.nepalicongress.org, and click on the ´donation´ button to fill in the online form.
They can then print the invoice received after filling up the form and send the money either through telex transfer via bank or remit through authorized remittance companies.
The NC has named Western Union Money Transfer, Money Gram, NABIL Remit, Himal Remit, City Express, International Money Express, Prabhu Money Transfer, Goodwill Remit, Sunrise Remit and Pashupati Remit as the official remittance companies to send donation.
The party has also opened accounts at Rastriya Banijya Bank, Grand Bank Limited, Nepal Investment Bank and Global IME Bank for donation.
The details of the bank accounts have been posted at the party´s official website.
NC has requested the donors to send the remittance code by clicking remittance code button seen on the same web page to the party if the money is sent through a remittance company.
"All the details of those providing donation to the party will be uploaded at www.donation@nepalicongress.org. But if someone does not want his/her name to be publicized we have made necessary arrangement not to make their names public, respecting their rights to privacy,” said Sushil Poudel, who helped design the website for donation.
Addressing the press conference attended by party´s office bearers, including Vice-president Ram Chandra Paudel, senior leader Sher Bahadur Deuba and General Secretary Prakash Man Singh, NC President Sushil Koirala said that the new initiative will counter the allegation of some political parties that the NC is also involved in extortion.
"They have always tried to tarnish the image of the party. We want to maintain transparency of everything," Koirala said.
He added that all top three leaders have decided to receive donation through banking channels to ensure that donation collected for the purpose of election would be transparent to all.
“There is now no possibility of any individual misusing the donation, nor there is any possibility to embezzlement”," he said. The NC also plans to publicize details of the total income and expenditure made once the election is over.
Stating that the NC was short of necessary money to make necessary preparations for the election, Koirala asked all well-wishers of the party to provide donation to the party for promulgating democratic constitution and prosperous Nepal.
Earlier, NC had formed Election Fund General Committee headed by President Koirala. The Committee includes Vice-president Paudel, senior leader Deuba, Treasurer Yadav, Central Working Committee members Ram Krishna Tamrakar, Dr Ram Sharan Mahat and Deep Kumar Upadhyaya.
