KATHMANDU, June 21: Nepali Congress (NC) has demanded completion of the stalled integration process of the former Maoist combatants into Nepal Army (NA).

A Central Working Committee (CWC) meeting held Thursday demanded that the integration process should be concluded as per the seven-point agreement reached among parties on November 1 last year. [break]

Most of those speaking at the meeting had expressed concerns over the changed political situation after the dissolution of the Constituent Assembly (CA) which has relegated the integration process on to the backburner.

While expressing concern over the failure of the Maoist-led government to conclude the peace process, the CWC meeting also asked the Maoist party to conclude the remaining tasks of the peace process such as return of seized properties to their rightful owners. The meeting concluded that the government´s inaction has delayed the peace process.

The CWC meeting also formed a 15-member ad hoc district committee headed by Tek Prasad Gurung in Chitwan . Wednesday´s CWC meeting had dissolved the district committee headed by Bikash Koirala in connection with his questionable role in the murder of the then Chitwan district president of Tarun Dal Shiva Basnet.

The ad hoc committee includes Uma Regmi, Tirtha Raj Bhusal, Shesh Narayan Adhikari, Prithvi Man Gurung, Sabitri Bogati Pathak, Rajendra Prasad Chaudhary, Ram Bahadur Lama, Bhim Prasad Thapaliya, Anjani Shrestha, Shiva Narayan Mahato ´Gurau´, Bhrikuti Paudel, Kamal Acharya and Shanti Pariyar as its members.

According to a press statement issued by NC, the ad hoc committee has been asked to hold election of the district working committee on September 14. The CWC meeting has appointed advocate Yadunath Khanal as election officer to hold the district poll.

Likewise, the CWC meeting also formed an 11-member committee under CWC member Bhim Bahadur Tamang to address the demands of the agitating indigenous nationalities members in the party. The indigenous members a few days ago had submitted a memorandum listing their demands including identity-based federalism to the party president.

The committee will bring a proposal to address their demands within a month in line with the party´s policy and programs and election manifesto made public during the 2008 CA elections.

The committee has Mahesh Acharya, Nara Hari Acharya, Dr Minendra Rijal, Man Bahadur Bishwakarma, Uma Kanta Chaudhary, Bhisma Raj Angdambe, Ajaya Kumar Chaurasiya, Gagan Thapa, Sita Gurung and Laxmi Rai.

Meanwhile, NC has decided to distribute and renew its ordinary membership till October 1 in all districts across the country. Likewise, the renewal or distribution of new party´s active membership will be done from September to mid-October.
