Family members of Adhikari from Duradanda on Thursday lodged a complaint against Paudel and two other Maoist cadres at the district police office accusing them of the murder.[break]
On January 16, 2002, Maoist cadres had abducted Head Teacher Adhikari from Panini Sanskrit Secondary School. The Maoists then tied him to a tree nearby the village and shot him dead.
Adhikari´s wife Indira has lodged complaint against Paudel of Lamjung Jita-5, Prabhuraj Ghimire of Ishaneshwar-4, Lamjung and Dhruva Adhikari of Mijure-5 of Kaski district.
Indira said she had reached the police office to lodge a complaint a day after her husband´s murder, but she didn´t fearing reprisal. “I didn´t lodge complaint then because even eyewitnesses wouldn´t have disclosed the names of the murders,” she said.
Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Sandip Bhandari said the police would take the investigation ahead.
Newly-appointed peace committee chairman Paudel is office secretary of the party´s Lamjung district body while Adhikari was Maoist Vice-chairman Dr Baburam Bhattarai´s personal secretary when the latter was the finance minister.
The Maoist party, however, had taken action against Ghimire previously.
Members of the Adhikari family said the move to appoint Adhikari as the head of the committee has added insult to their injuries. “How can we expect justice from the state when murderers are promoted to such key positions in the district,” said Adhikari´s son Suman.
Paudel, however, refuted the allegations against him. “The party has already owned up the incident,” he said, adding, “It might be a conspiracy against us.”
