Minister Gupta calls FNJ for talks

KATHMANDU, Jan 31: Minister for Information and Communications Jaya Prakash Prasad Gupta has urged the Federation of Nepali Journalists (FNJ) to come for table talks to discuss the issues regarding the information classification.



Speaking at a program in the Capital on Tuesday, Minister Gupta said the government has gone through legal process to keep 140 types of information secret after classifying them from a committee formed under the chair of Chief Secretary.[break]



Minister Gupta said the government is planning to keep information secret such as issues related to national security, crime investigation, among some others, adding that the government is ready for talks if media and civil society feel uneasy to find information.



Minister Gupta reiterated that the classification was made based on legal provision and added a fixed standard could be made for disseminating government information.
