A joint struggle committee of various student unions, which has padlocked the MU for the last two weeks, said that it will now padlock the Kathmandu-based liaison office of the MU as well. [break]
“At the local level, we will also conduct programs to expose the wrongdoings of MU,” said Sushil Thapa, Central Committee member of All Nepal National Free Student Union (ANNFSU). Thapa accused the MU officials of not being serious toward resolving the issue through talks.
On the other hand, Thakendra Prasad Giri, registrar of MU, who headed the MU representatives for the talks, said, “We failed to reach consensus as student unions remained stuck to their guns.” Giri said that they would try to hold another round of talks with the student unions.
Student unions have demanded that the MU scrap its higher fee structure and appoint professors and other employees by forming a service commission. As MU remains padlocked, varsity officials have not been able to perform their duties. They have been working from their homes.
