Metal concert to help rebuild a school

KATHMANDU, Sept 6: Metal for Nepal, a musical concert, was held amidst an audience of more than a thousand on Bhrikutimandap ground at Exhibition Road on September 5. The show was organized by Tenacity Music with the aim to raise funds for the rebuilding of a school in Sindhupalchowk District brought down by the earthquake.

Five Nepali bands—Vomiting Snakes, Antyesti, Shadow In Shade, Child Wife and Underside, and four Indian bands, namely Demonic Resurrection, Zygnema, Aberrant and Undying Inc, performed for the cause.The concert was held in two stages, although not simultaneously. By the end of one performance, the audience had to rush to the other stage to catch another performance. Despite all the rush, the audience, full of energy, seemed to participate enthusiastically.

Metal for Nepal is a series of fundraising concerts that kick started in Switzerland on May 9 this year. So far, the concert has traveled to more than 25 countries including the US and France, with more than 120 bands contributing to the cause.

Bikrant Shrestha of Underside stated, "We will be heading to Bhotsipa village in Sindhupalchowk toward the end of September. A temporary school is being run by Educating Nepal and we will see what needs to be done after we reach there. After surveying the situation, we will be better equipped to form a concrete plan and see how we should proceed."

The concert was conducted in collaboration with Educating Nepal, an NGO.
