Maoists withdraw indefinite strike

KATHMANDU, Jan 22: The Unified CPN (Maoist) has withdrawn its indefinite strike, party spokesperson Dinanath Sharma told myrepublica.com on Friday afternoon. The party took the decision during a meeting held at 3 p.m.



Earlier, after a meeting held at the residence of the High Level Political Mechanism Coordinator and Nepali Congress president Girija Prasad Koirala, the party’s vice-chairman Narayan Kaji Shrestha had said, “We have taken it (the request to withdraw the protest) positively. We will discuss it in our party and decide.”[break]



The Maoists had announced an indefinite strike beginning Sunday.
