Maoists not against India: Shrestha

KATHMANDU, March 24: Unified CPN-Maoist Vice-Chairman Narayan Kaji Shrestha said the tenure of the Constituent Assembly can be extended if the peace process and constitution writing couldn´t be completed on time.



Speaking at an interaction organized by Sambad Club Nepal in the Capital Thursday, he stressed for taking peace and constitution writing together saying that promulgation of the new constitution is possible even though the rehabilitation and integration of PLA combatants has got delayed.[break]



Shrestha also batted for transforming the Khanal-led government to a national consensus government and urged Nepali Congress to join the government.



He said the seven-point deal between UML and Maoist could not be scrapped as the present government was formed on its basis. He added that the spirit of the seven-point deal was constitution writing and taking the peace process to a logical conclusion.



In another context, he clearified that the Maoist party is not anti-India and said that Nepalis will not accept border encroachment and any move that undermines Nepal´s sovereignty and national integrity.
