Maoist-UML taskforce misses deadline

KATHMANDU, April 13: The taskforce formed to prepare Common Minimum Program (CMP) of the new government, code of conduct for ministers and to draft terms of reference of the proposed high-level political mechanism to oversee the government functioning has missed the given deadline.



Ruling CPN-UML and the UCPN (Maoist) parties on Sunday formed an eight-member taskforce for the purpose with a two-day deadline to complete the assignment. [break]



The taskforce had entrusted Maoist leader Dev Gurung and UML leader Bhim Rawal to prepare the drafts and present them at the taskforce meeting by Monday.



According to a taskforce member Surendra Pandey of the UML, Gurung and Rawal had not communicated to them about the progress as of Tuesday evening.



“As per the plan, we were scheduled to meet Monday. But they have so far not called any meeting. I hope they will inform us about the progress and present it at a meeting soon,” Pandey told Republica.



Gurung said they are yet to accomplish the given tasks.



The taskforce has four members each from the ruling Maoist and UML. Maoist Vice-Chairman Narayankaji Shrestha, Gurung, Post Bahadur Bogati and Dinanath Sharma from the Maoist party and Deputy Prime Minister and Finance Minister Bharat Mohan Adhikari, Rawal, Pandey and Bhim Acharya are members from the UML.
