KATHMANDU, Mar 2: Though the Maoist-affiliated All Nepal Peasant Association (ANPA) finally got its general secretary three months after its general convention, the association is yet to get its full shape, thanks to the conflict between the rival factions in the party.

Recently, Nanda Bahadur Budha Magar, who is close to Senior Maoist Vice-chairman Mohan Baidya, has been appointed as ANPA general secretary, following a lengthy dispute in the party. [break]

ANPA had held its convention in Nepalgunj last January, electing Chitra Bahadur Shrestha as its chairman. Shrestha is close to party Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal.

The party has also postponed general convention of the party´s sister organizations due to conflict between rival factions led by Dahal, Baidya and party Vice-chairman Baburam Bhattarai.

Magar said, “We are waiting for the others posts in the peasants´ body to be filled.”

“The expansion of the wing has been delayed due to conflict in the party,” said Bhim Prasad Gautam, faction in-charge in the party, said, “We hope all the posts will be filled before the first central committee meeting of the peasants´ body slated for March 10-11.”

He added that the meeting will also announce protest programs demanding guarantee of peasants´ rights.
