Some youths had blocked the Rajbiraj-Hanumannagar road section at Inruwa on Thursday evening. This had caused some delay in taking the body of deceased Raut to Bhardaha for the last rites despite leaders of Madhesi Morcha participating in Raut's funeral procession in Rajbiraj along the same route. The road section was blocked by logs. Surprisingly, none of the Morcha leaders at the helm of the protests in the district knew who were involved in blocking the road.
Youth leader Sailesh Shah of Sadbhhawana Party, who was also participating in the procession, warned the local youths not to repeat such mischievous activities in the future.
Meanwhile, agitating locals set ablaze three government offices - District Livestock Development Office, District Forest Office and District Education Office - in Rajbiraj, district headquarters of Saptari.
In another such incident, an ambulance en route to Sakarpura early Thursday had to turn back from Bhaluwahi River bridge as local youths and children with logs, bamboos sticks and boulders had blocked the route along the Rajbiraj-Kunauli section.
Although the protestors have promised not to obstruct media vehicles, milk carrier vans and ambulances, the blockade at the bridge completely halted all vehicular movement. Locals said there was not even a little space left in the bridge for crossing bicycles, let alone any vehicle.
After being informed about the road blockade, Chitta Narayan Yadav, a central member of Federal Socialist Forum Nepal, said that such activities were carried out by some elements without coordinating with the Morcha. Yet, none of the leaders know who are involved in carrying out such activities.
"Leaders responsible for managing the protests should take this issue very seriously," said a protestor. "Such incidents can prove to be very costly."
Birendra Majhi, Area No 2 coordinator of united protests mobilization committee of Saptari, also acknowledged that such activities are being performed without their official decision.
"We, however, have no choice but to take responsibility for all the activities being carried out in the district," said Majhi. "We have been organizing our protests at a fairly tolerant level. So those activities come as surprise to us as well."
