Locals to protest land acquisition

DIBYANAGAR, CHITWAN, Oct 24: Locals have decided to launch protest against the government decision to requisition 310 bighas of land to open parachute training for Nepal Army. The locals have also submitted a memorandum in this regard to the District Administrative Office (DAO) in Chitwan. [break]



They maintain that the land the government has planned to requisition is highly productive so the government move is wrong. "The chief district officer had assured us that he would talk to us after Tihar, but did not do so, so we will make public our protest program," said Bhim Lal Rimal, a member of the committee formed to prevent the government from requisitioning the land.



Dev Datta Lamsal, one of the owners of the land, said that the land is connected to irrigation system and so it should not be used for paragliding purpose. Last month, the government has posted information in the village asking the land owners to contact the DAO for compensation.
