About 5,000 protestors had come out from various villages and finally gathered at Jaleshwar. Locals were agitated over the government's apathy in addressing the demands of the United Loktantrik Madhesi Morcha, which has been staging protests in Tarai districts for over a month now.Apart of the demonstration, corpse of fifty-year-old Rampradeep Mahato of Rajkhor village of Gausala municipality was carried on a tractor and paraded around the market area. According to the locals, Mahato had committed suicide in disapproval to the new constitution.
"He was concerned about the government's apathy toward the issues of Madheshi people. He used to say it is useless to live if our concerns are left unaddressed in the new constitution," said Rajendra Sah, Mahato's neighbor.
Locals had recovered the body of Mahato left hanging in a tree. Preliminary investigation has shown that Mahato had left his house early in the morning.
"He was shouting that he would kill himself if the new constitution fails to incorporate our demands. No one believed, he would make such move," said Sah.
Coming from a poor family, Mahato used to survive on daily wages.
Meanwhile, Mahottari District Police Office claimed that Mahato had committed suicide due to extreme poverty.
"We are investigating the case seriously and until now we have not found any suicide notes. The body has been sent for postmortem," said Superintendent of Police Saurabh Rana.
