KATHMANDU, Feb 8: Load shedding hours will be decreased by the last week of February, said Secretary of Water Resources Shankar Koirala.

Answering the parliamentary Public Account Committee (PAC) on Sunday morning, Koirala said it will be possible to bring down load shedding hours by that time when Nepal will be able to import 60 megawatt (MW) of electricity from India. [break]

The government has assigned a construction company to restore electricity towers that were demolished by Koshi River after it breached its embankment and diverted eastward in Sunsari district last August.

Koirala informed that the Nepali side will make the transmission links ready by February 18 while India will restore the transmission links on its side by February 20.

The committee has sought reply from Minister for Water Resources Bishnu Prasad Poudel and Secretary Koirala about the reasons behind the power crisis in the country.
