Leaders in the taskforce claimed that a deal is likely to be reached during a meeting between NC President Girija Prasad Koirala, Maoist Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal and the UML Chairman Jhala Nath Khanal on Tuesday.
Talking to media persons after the meeting, a member of the taskforce, UML leader Bharat Mohan Adhikari said they briefed the prime minister and the Maoist chairman on the progress made so far in the preparation of resolution motion. “We have decided to hand over the responsibility to top leaders of the parties as the taskforce failed to sort out the issues,” he said.
Earlier, Maoist Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal held one-to-one meeting with Prime Minister Madhav Nepal for nearly half an hour before the taskforce briefed them on the progres so far.
Adhikari said they could not hold detailed discussion on contentious issues on Monday as the Maoist chairman left for Solukhumbu and the prime minister was also preparing to leave for Copenhagen.
Maoist Vice Chair and a member of taskforce Narayan Kaji Shrestha said they are close to forging a deal. “There are some issues pending for discussion. Efforts are under way to arrive at a consensus,” he said.
Home Minister Bhim Rawal, who is also a member of the taskforce, said they also held discussion on amending interim constitution vis-a-vis president´s jurisdiction over army to avoid similar situation in the future.
NC Vice President Ram Chandra Poudel said they have been making efforts to prepare joint resolution motion in such a way that it would not be objectionable to any parties. “There has been differences on words and content,” he added.
