On the last day of the league matches played at TU cricket ground in Kirtipur, Kathmandu defeated Lalitpur by three wickets while Nuwakot beat Bhaktapur by five wickets.
Winning the toss, Lalitpur scored 111 runs in 20 overs losing nine wickets. Pawan Shrestha was not out with 36 runs where as Rajesh Pulami scored 18 runs. Ram Chaudhary and Rupesh Shrivastav took two wickets each for Kathmandu.
In reply, Bijay Gautam´s 37 runs and Indra Kamal Manandhar´s 20 guided Kathmandu to a three wickets victory with two balls remaining in the inning.
Meanwhile, Bhaktapur won the toss and scored 123 runs losing four wickets. Prabin Joshi was not out at 51 runs off 52 balls and Abhaya Poudel´s 31 runs helped Bhaktapur put together a good total.
But Pramod Basnet´s unbeaten 51 runs off 47 balls and Rikesh Lama´s 48 runs off 40 balls guided Nuwakot to a five wickets victory in 19 overs. Prabin Joshi took four wickets in his four over spell conceding 19 runs.
Joshi was later adjudged man-of-the-series for his all-round performance in the tournament. Sudeep Sharma of TU was named best bowler while Manoj Sood of Lalitpur was awarded best batsman of the tournament.
Barda Sports Club lifts title
Barda Sports Club lifted the title of Red Bull District Level Football Tournament on Wednesday in Dolakha.
Barda defeated Laliguras Youth Club 3-0 in penalty a shootout. With the win, Barda bagged a purse of Rs 20,000 while Laliguras had to settle for Rs 15,000. Samaj Sewa Samiti, Makaibari finished third and took away Rs 10,000.
Jawalakhel, Gyanu Baba in QF
Jawalakhel Volleyball Training Centre and Gyanu Baba Academy advanced into the quarterfinals of the Second G4 Cup Open National Volleyball Tournament on Wednesday as the leaders of their respective groups.
Jawalakhel struggled hard to bounce from two sets down to beat Armed Police Force (APF) Club in the last day of the league matches held at Dhortapan Volleyball Training Centre, Balaju.
APF were leading 25-22, 25-22 in the first two sets but Jawlakhel fought back to win the remaining three sets 25-17, 25-13, 15-6. APF also made it to the last-eight as the runners-up of group B.
Anju Shrestha of Jawalakhel was adjudged woman-of-the-match.
Meanwhile, Gyanu Baba defeated PLA Sports Club 25-18, 25-8, 25-14 in straight sets in group D to top the points table. New Diamond ´B´ also advanced into the quarterfinals from the same group as the runners-up. The quarterfinals will begin from Thursday with Fishtail taking on Angel´s Heart in the first knockout match.
