Speaking at the function, National Sports Council (NSC) Member Secretary Yuvaraj Lama said a new national karate team would be formed from the National Team Selection Tournament to be held in Kathmandu on Wednesday and Thursday. "One team each of four official karate associations and departmental teams, a team of silver and bronze medalists at the Sixth National Games and the current national team will compete in the selection tournament," said Lama.
University Karate Team formed
A University Karate Team comprising 15 players -- eight male and seven female -- has been formed to participate in the upcoming National Team Selection Tournament organized by the Nepal Karate Federation (NKF).
According to team selection coordinator Ram Kumar Tharu, Chandra Khadka (50 kg), Anil Tamang (55 kg), Milan Nepali (60 kg), Rajiv Ranjit (67 kg), Biplav Shrestha (75 kg), Ram Kumar Rajbanshi (84 kg), Ashish Gurung (open) and Rabindra Manandhar (single kata) have been selected in the men´s section.
Likewise, Laxmi Gurung (45 kg), Sirjana Tamang (50 kg), Sunita Tamang (55 kg), Amrita Shakya (61 kg), Sarita Shrestha (68 kg), Sirjana Sapkota (above-68 kg) and Sarita Shrestha (single kata) have been selected in the women´s section.
Wadoryu karate team selected
Nepal Wadoryu Karate Federation has also selected players to participate in the same tournament.
According to the federation, Sujan Shrestha (50 kg), Niraj Bhandari (55 kg), Sadan Rana Magar (60 kg), Bal Bahadur Basnet (67 kg), Prithvi Shah Thakuri (70 kg), Hari Bahadur Tamang (75 kg), Prem Kumar Moktan (84 kg), Raj Kumar Nagarkoti (above-84 kg) and Nima Tamang (single kata) have been selected in the men´s section.
Likewise, Gyani Maharjan (45 kg), Elena BK (50 kg), Rupa Maharjan (55 kg), Jyoti Gurung (61 kg), Shashikala Rai (68 kg) and Asha Rana (single kata) are the selected female players. A women´s kata team comprising Rana, Gyani Maharjan and Krishmita Shrestha has also been selected for the tournament.
