Raju is 10 minutes older than Madan.
The brothers also claimed to be the first Tamang students in their village to become engineers.
Both had passed their School Leaving Certificate (SLC) from Swasthani Higher Secondary in Madan Kudari VDC-2.

According to them, they didn´t have the opportunity to learn from qualified teachers during their early schooling and all the subjects were taught in the Tamang language.
“Coming from a rural educational background, I had never imagined that I would become an engineer one day,” said Laxman.
Recalling old times, Laxman added, “We had to walk hours to reach school and everything was taught there in Tamang.”
The brothers said that their initial days at KU, after getting admitted for the Intermediate in Science (ISc), were difficult . “We kept up our hard work and as a result we passed the ISc in second division,” said Raju.
KU has offered Laxman a scholarship for a Masters in Glaciology Research.
“I will continue my studies at KU and this scholarship has come as a blessing,” he said.
Ram, for his part, wants to work for a hydropower company. “During my school days, we didn´t have electricity in our village. Now I will work to extend electricity to all villages living without electricity,” he said.
Their father Chyangba and mother Kamisya are both illiterate. “Regretting their own innability to read and write, they always encouraged us to learn and become educated, said the brother in one voice.
Chyangba has also educated his three daughters. “Two of them are in an auxiliary mid-wife course and the third is in mass communications,” he said.
A total of 1,135 students were felicitated at the 18th Convocation at KU on Monday.
