Locals and kin of Basudev Paudel had been obstructing the highway for the past four days after 21-year-old Paudel´s death in a road accident. Paudel´s sister Sarita was also injured in the accident. The local administration had imposed curfew in Kohalpur from 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday to 5 a.m. on Thursday after police baton charged agitators to reopen the highway.
The locals agreed to end the road blockade after the Chief District Officer expressed his commitment to arrest and take action against Bhim Bahadur Thapa at the earliest during talks held between the local administration, the victim´s family and representatives of political parties on Thursday and Friday. Thapa, who is a Bheri Bus Committee staff and does not hold a driving license, had hit Paudel with his vehicle while the latter was on his motorcycle.
The victim´s kin have said that they will not allow buses of Bheri Bus Committee to operate until the Committee gives Rs 500,000 as compensation to Paudel´s family and treats all those injured in the police baton charge.
