KMC to conduct regular tests on drinking water

KATHMANDU, Sept 9: Kathmandu Metropolitan City (KMC) has said that it will conduct regular tests on drinking water being supplied to Kathmanduites from now onward.



The KMC signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Methodology Center for Environment Assessment (METCNAS) of Czech Republic on Monday, with the latter agreeing to provide technical assistance and device used for carrying out the tests.

METCNAS has assured of providing technical support in monitoring and testing of drinking water for a period of five years. According to Gyanendra Karki, Chief of Environment Management Department at KMC, the device will be used to test the quality of drinking water from all sources.


"The device is simple to use and portable. One can carry it anywhere to conduct tests," said Karki. Karki informed that the KMC is planning to construct a separate lab for the purpose. Rabin Man Shrestha, chief of Environment Management Division (EMD) at KMC, said experts along with students will be mobilized to conduct tests on water samples.
