DANG, Dec 8: CPN-UML Chairman Jhala Nath Khanal has asked the agitating UCPN (Maoist) to come to negotiations and withdraw their plan to announce autonomous states.

Addressing a function here on Tuesday, Chairman Khanal urged the Maoists to come to negotiations with the other political parties, acknowledging the current political needs. Khanal was on his way to Kathmandu after inaugurating the party´s Salyan district convention.

Khanal expressed confidence that the Task Force of the Maoists, the Nepali Congress and the UML formed on Monday will help find an outlet to the current political deadlock. He suggested the Maoists take the initiative to find consensus as both the government and the constituent assembly are in favor of the politics of consensus.

Khanal warned that the new constitution cannot be drafted on time and the country would be pushed into a fresh round of conflict should bitterness among the political parties continue.

He directed party cadres to work without being influenced by the maneuverings of extremist forces. He asked party cadres to exercise restraint for the sake of political consensus.
