Journo in police net for extortion

BIRATNAGAR, AUG 8: Morang police have arrested a person on charge of extortion from her rented room in Biratnagar.



Puja Poudel has been arrested for alleged extortion in the name of Janatantrik Terai Mukti Morcha (JTMM), an armed outfit operating in the Terai region.[break]



Previously, she used to work for the Aba Daily, a local newspaper published by Parshuram Basent, the prime accused in the attack on the Biratnagar scribe of the Nagarik /Republica dailies. The newspaper is out of print for the last one year.



Basnet, who  is also implicated in the attack at the Morang district court some time ago, has been at large.



Poudel is currently affiliated to the Morang chapter of Rastriya Parjantantra Party-Nepal.



In the past, she was also associated with a number of political outfits including UCPN (Maoist), the Matrika Yadav-led CPN (Maoist) and Shiva Sena Nepal.



Police also recovered receipts and other documents of the JTMM from her residence during the raid.
