The Commitment from the state-owned institution has come after the Text Book Monitoring Committee under the Department of Education warned of ending the monopoly in publication of text books from the Centre to the private sector, if it failed to come up with a clear action plan.[break]
This was revealed by JEMC Manager Sujan Nepal at a public hearing on ´text book and scholarship distribution and management´ organized by the Education Journalists´ Group here on Friday.
The Centre is currently printing books at the rate of 80,000 rupees day.
On the occasion, Director General of Department of Education, Dr Labadev Awasthi said the intention was to make JEMC competitive.
Likewise, the Department has decided to set up scholarship funds at the district level henceforth to resolve the problems seen in distribution of scholarship.
