While students will spend whatever time they get off from their classes, working people end up staring at the screen for almost one third of their day. [break]
Surfing the internet for entertainment, researching a particular subject, watching movies, listening and downloading the latest songs and playing games have become ingrained in our lifestyle so much that we now spend a minimum of three hours a day staring at the computer screen.
On our Facebook page, Bikalpa Kattel says, “I spend around three to four hours of my time in front of the computer during my college day. Generally, I try to use that time to study but honestly speaking, most of it goes in interacting with friends on Facebook.”
Social networking sites seem to be hard to resist. The fact that we can catch up with friends, share recent news of our happenings and see what the rest of the world has been up to has become very entertaining for us. In fact, we aren’t being able to stop ourselves from spending the majority of our computer time on those sites.
Bhupendra Sharma confirms, “I don’t know what happens. I mean every time I have different intentions before sitting down on my computer but ultimately I end up using Facebook. And waste my time.”
Try as we might to concentrate on the work at hand, these sites draw us to them.
Nirmal Kurtyel also says, “I allocate the time between 5am and 10 pm during my holidays to the computer. It depends on the electricity available, of course. When I have to attend my classes, then I generally spend three hours. At least! When I log on to the computer, I’m usually browsing the internet and listening to music. Facebook and Youtube are the websites that I am always on.”
Too much use of the computer can strain your eyes so makes sure you walk away from the computer every 10 minutes or so for a little break.
