Is it because they sell or is there no topic to write on? We wonder what it is because in the past two weeks, songs about love have really trickled in but it’s refreshing to hear music that is not electronic, house or trance sometimes and, some are even addictive.[break]
Here are some songs that have made it to our list this week on Top Spin:
The Thomas Oliver Band – One of These Days
Now this band, you got to check them out. With soothing vocals and amazing guitar and drum works, they all just complement each other on all levels. Hailing from Wellington, New Zealand, The Thomas Oliver Band is a group of five men who are currently enjoying the success of their latest album ‘Baby, I’ll Play’. From the very set, this is a lovable tune and it’s called ‘One of These Days’.
Simple Plan featuring Sean Paul – Summer Paradise
We’ve had a series of surprising collaborations between unlikely artists and the latest on the list happens to be of Simple Plan and Sean Paul. The Canadian pop punk band has teamed up with the Jamaican rapper for their new offering ‘Summer Paradise’ featured in their current album ‘Get Your Heart On!’ The lad’s music has certainly grown more popish which is quite evident in the track. And another interesting part about this project is that all the initials lead to SP - Simple Plan, Sean Paul and Summer Paradise. A feel good song, it’s definitely worth listening to!
Kris Allen – The Vision of Love
When he won the first place in America Idol in 2009, expectations ran high but the singer/songwriter hasn’t really hit anywhere. But Allen emphasized his wide-ranging abilities as a musician, especially strumming the guitar for an acoustic take on Kanye West’s ‘Heartless’, which won him the competition and suggested he might have a decent album within him. Come 2012, he has a fresh material out, finally, titled “The Vision of Love”! The music’s normal but the vocal’s is something you can really feel in the song.
Olly Murs - Oh My Goodness
‘In Case You Didn’t Know’ is a peculiar title for Olly Murs’ second album at a time when his profile is at its highest. The X Factor graduate-turned-presenter might be creating a stir amongst press and forums for his slight arrogance but he is coming up with good music. Though little on the popish side, the song is good. His latest track, ‘Oh My Goodness’ finds him singing of those head-over-heels feelings when falling in love at first sight and running all over to catch the girl. At least that’s what the video is all about!
Taylor Swift – Eyes Open
Apart from a big budget book adaptation franchise, another common thing between Twilight and The Hunger Games, is its soundtrack which consists of songs by indie artists that many of the young-adult fans of the books have probably never heard of. However, the hunger games compilation also has appearances from Maroon 5 and Taylor Swift to give the mainstream feel. The single ‘Eyes Open’ sees Swift try her hands on pop rock genre and we must add, she’s done it pretty well! The rock music totally gels with her high pitched voice.
Rival Sons – Pressure and Time
When you first hear this song, you will definitely not feel like it’s a new rock band in the scene. In fact, their latest single ‘Pressure and Time’ sounds like it’s been recorded after listening to the Led Zeppelin’s LPs. Although they belong to a record label nominally for death metal, Rival Sons’ latest album ‘Pressure and Time’ might not be something that caters the lovers of that particular genre. You definitely can’t afford to miss this one out!
