Faizan, the general secretary of Islamic Association Nepal, was shot dead by two assailants in broad daylight on September 26, 2011.[break]
According to the Central Investigation Bureau (CIB) which led the high-profile investigation, the murder of Faizan, 41, was masterminded in Kathmandu by one Aditya Pal, 30, of Lucknow, India, who had been living in the capital for six months.
Police also identified one Fahed Alam, around 27, of Ajamgadh of Uttar Pradesh in India, as one of the two assailants who shot at Faizan at Ghantaghar.
Yet another revelation is that Trilok Singh accused of Jamim Shah´s murder was also involved in this case.
The arrest of one Dhan Bahadur Thapa, 28, a cabbie from Ramechhap, helped crack the case. Thapa had ferried the three Indian criminals in Kathmandu as the latter were haunting Faizan. He even hid a pistol used by the assailants handed to him while they left Nepal.
Thapa seemed to have been frequently phoned by the assailants from India even after the incident. According to CIB, the assailants together with Pal had fled the scene in the same taxi using the same Tri-Chandra road and got off at Bhadrakali, a modus operandi often used by Bablu Shreevastav, the main accused in the murder of Jamim Shah.
The assailants had left the capital two days after the incident. CIB has also made public the details of SMS conversations between Pal and Fahed and those between Singh and Pal.
Investigative officials have also gathered the photographs of Pal and Fahed from a private building in Kalanki of which a flat was rented by Pal while living in the capital with his wife Reema.
To rent the quarter, Pal and Reema had pretended to be the newly-wed couple who had fled India after their inter-caste marriage was opposed by their families.
Most interesting is that Pal had even met and paid a certain amount as remuneration to a Nepali counsel of Manmeet Singh who had shot at Ansari last year. This indicates that all high-profile murders by Indian criminals from the killing of Mirja Dil Sad Beg have been carried out by the same group.
Investigative officials believe that the cabbie, who was arrested recently after returning from India, knows even more about the case. The availability of Singh in Nepali jail could also be a help, they said.
CIB Chief DIG Upendra Kant Aryal said that Nepal and India should sign extradition treaty to resolve cross-border crimes.
