India gives 40 vehicles to support peace

KATHMANDU, April 7: India on Thursday handed over 40 vehicles used by the United Nations Mission in Nepal (UNMIN) to the government.



Jaideep Mazumdar, deputy chief of mission at the Indian Embassy, handed over the vehicles to Joint Secretary at the Office of the Cantonment Management Jaya Dev Shrestha, by signing an agreement at UNMIN headquarters. [break]



The vehicles include 10 pick-up vans, two ambulances, four buses, 22 SUVs and two mini trucks, which collectively are worth over Rs 15 million.



Bala Nanda Sharma, convener of the secretariat under the Special Committee, said that the vehicles will be used for monitoring of the Maoist cantonments.



"This demonstrates India´s continued commitment and support to the peace process in Nepal which is critical in bringing about long term stability in Nepal," Indian Embassy said in a statement.
