RAUTAHAT, May 26: Fire victims of Jagadiya VDC and Raghunathpur VDC of Rautahat, where 100 houses were gutted in a fire on April 13, have developed various diseases.

Almost all the fire victims are suffering from one or the other health problem, according to Shek Ansar of Jagadiya VDC-9.

Ansar, who recently returned home from Qatar, said his family members are ill for weeks now. “My four year old daughter Manija is suffering from typhoid and my son has diarrhea. The fire destroyed everything I don´t even have money for their treatment,” said Ansar. He further said his condition of his 55-year old neighbor Shek Sami, who was suffering from asthma, has deteriorated further. [break]

Another victim Shek Abash said the fire shattered his dream of marrying off his daughter. “My daughter was about to get married but I lost everything in the fire. I don´t know how I will make up for the loss,” said Abash.

Sekh Mahajar Alam, another local, said “We have been living under the tent for the last two months. We have received no relief supplied from the government,” said Alam.

Meanwhile, Local Development Officer (LDO) of Rautahat Basant Kumar Bhandari said that they are in the process of building huts for the fire victims.
