Biku Narayan Chaukami, who bought Hyundai i20 from Laxmi Intercontinental´s Thapathali showroom on February 13 under ´Fabulous February´ offer, has claimed that the company supplied him a repainted car. [break]
“The car has different shades of blue color in door, top and looking glass,” said Chaukami.
Anjan Shrestha, executive director of Laxmi Intercontinental, said the problem arose because many customers in Nepal are unaware of the fact that their car may have gone through maintenance and repairs before they buy it. “Around 5 percent of the cars get scratches when they are driven from Birgunj to Kathmandu or kept in customs yard,” said Shrestha.

Chaukami, however, said the sales manager should have informed him that his car might have gone through maintenance. He has also claimed that the company sold him the 2010 model when the 2011 model was already introduced.
Rupesh Sharma Bhatta, senior manager - business development and planning at Laxmi Intercontinental, played down the claim and added that the 2011 model was introduced only in April. He also said cars go through repair and maintenance before being handed over to customers because of minor scratches they get while they are driven to Kathmandu.
“We have to drive the car from Birgunj because we do not have huge lorries to carry them to Kathmandu. Besides, our highways may not bear such heavy load," said Bhatta.
Chaukami has asked the company to provide him a new car as a replacement. Bhatta, however, said the company was ready to give full touch up to the car but will not provide a new car.
