According to the District Hospital in-charge Dr Chuman Lal Das, around 400 patients of viral fever, typhoid and common cold flock the hospital daily for treatment. Dr Das further said with the huge increase in the number of patients, it has been impossible for the hospital to accommodate them all. "It has been very hard for three doctors and half a dozen support staffs to deal with such huge numbers of patient. We are busy working day and night without proper sleep and at times without food," said Dr Das. [break]
According to Assistance Health Worker Shyam Chaudhari, the hospital has been facing difficulty to manage space for viral patients. He further informed that the 5 beds in the Emergency Ward and 15 beds in the Outpatient Department are already filled with the patient and the hospital was now forced to treat the people on the hospital floor and other vacant areas.
"The number of patients is increasing daily. 90 percent of them have viral fever. The fever has affected mostly children and the elderly," said Chaudhari.
Dr Das said tcontaminated water was the main the cause of an outbreak of the disease. He also informed that the hospital has increased dispatches of the medicine to the village health posts after the cases viral fever increased recently. Dr Das further opined that the patient of the viral fever has increased as it is communicable disease and the person caring for the patient is more likely to get the fever easily.
Meanwhile, Janata Higher Secondary School at Khanbu VDC-6 Ranibari has been closed after the outbreak of the fever among its pupil. According to teacher Ram Kumar Rai, the school has been closed for a week after half of the students stopped coming to school due to fever.
