KATHMANDU, May 15: The House of Representatives (HoR) on Thursday night passed the government’s policies and programmes for the upcoming fiscal year 2026/27 despite strong criticism and continued protests from opposition parties

The policies and programmes were eventually endorsed after Minister for Finance Swarnim Wagle responded to lawmakers’ queries on behalf of the prime minister during Thursday evening’s second HoR meeting.

Speaker Dol Prasad Aryal offered lawmakers time for additional clarifications, but opposition members refused to participate, insisting that only the prime minister should answer their concerns. Some opposition lawmakers also walked out of the meeting hall in protest.

The House later rejected, through a majority voice vote, amendment proposals registered by 35 opposition lawmakers after none of the proposers agreed to withdraw them.

President Ramchandra Paudel had presented the government’s policies and programmes during a joint session of the federal parliament on May 11. The National Assembly also endorsed the document earlier on Thursday.
