Home Ministry suspends three DoI officials over bribery

KATHMANDU, Dec. 31: The Ministry of Home Affairs has suspended three employees at the Department of Immigration (DoI).



The Ministry stated that this action has been taken based on the report of the investigation committee constituted to probe into the incident in which the employees of the Department had allegedly asked for money from a woman hailing from Bhojpur and who had returned to Nepal from Saudi Arabia.



The committee was also tasked with investigating into the incident of a policeman taking her to a hotel and raping her.



The Ministry has also written to the Commission for the Investigation of Abuse of Authority (CIAA) for conducting further investigation and taking action on the incident. The Ministry of Home Affairs stated that the details of the committee´s report and action would be made public once the investigation into this incident was completed.



A press release issued by Joint Secretary of the Home Mimnistry, Shankar Prasad Koirala today expresses the commitment on behalf the Home Ministry to take legal action against those found guilty following the investigations.



The Ministry has also expressed deep sorrow over such a heinous incident that took place on a woman and apologized for the same.
